As we bid farewell to our dedicated stone fruit growers in the South Burnett Region, we reminisce on the exciting weeks in the lead up to one of Australia’s favourite early Spring stone fruits of Kumbia. This season the growers produced hundreds of tonnes of deliciously healthy peaches and nectarines.

Kumbia saw the first stage of 2017s crop bloom in June with the orchards blanketed by a sea of peach and nectarine blossom. Mother Nature’s buzzing native and European bees were in abundance doing all the work pollinating from tree to tree. Some weeks later delicate little fruit sets arrived and they began to grow quickly into luscious Kumbia stone fruit almost ready for harvest. Come mid-September the harvest was on with pallets upon pallets of yellow nectarines and white peaches arriving at Montague, Brisbane Produce Market. The product launch saw many greengrocers’ eager to taste test the fruits of Kumbia.

The Dugdell and Francis families are passionate growers who truly care about producing the tastiest and freshest stone fruit. The growers concur that this year’s early onset has certainly created more excitement with the fruit producing sumptuous seasonal flavours. What a beautiful sight to see the first variety, the Superstar™ yellow nectarine. A juicy and tangy treat which many Queenslanders enjoyed. Other varieties that followed were Snow Angel™ white peach, Amber Crest™ yellow peach and Polar Light™ yellow nectarine. We had an opportunity to taste test each variety. Who wouldn’t love to sink their teeth into Kumbia’s glorious stone fruit?

Many shoppers on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba, South Burnett and other regions of Queensland were interested to know about where to purchase these delectable beauties. Greengrocers were absolutely overwhelmed with repeat customers who said the fruit was delicious and full of flavour. We are excited that many greengrocers continue to support Australian growers.

This season we were delighted to know that Amanda of Amanda’s Wholesome Kitchen had teamed up with us to bring a new dimension to our story. Amanda shares a passion for health and wellness as well as creating amazing recipes from wholesome foods. She also supports Australian growers one hundred percent. We were excited to see her kitchen creation of Kumbia’s refreshing grilled Snow Angel™ peach, asparagus & rocket salad with basil/mint pesto dressing. Thank you, Amanda, I’m sure it was absolutely mouth-watering!

We would like to thank everyone who purchased the Kumbia stone fruit and we hope you thoroughly enjoyed it! On that note its farewell for now to our Australian growers deep in the heart of South Burnett.
