If this is your first-time hearing from Divine Fruits then there’s one thing you should know. We just can’t get enough of Stanthorpe! Located in the stunning Granite Belt Region in South East Queensland, Stanthorpe has so much on offer that you always leave wanting more! Just short of a 3-hour drive from Brisbane, the town offers picturesque surrounds and plenty to see and do.
Stanthorpes the MONTAGUE tree™ Growers
We love getting the chance to visit Stanthorpe growers. This trip included Andrew and Graham Finlay in addition to Angus Ferrier and their families to see delightful the MONTAGUE tree™ plums. The crop is coming along nicely and will continue to develop and sweeten into the season. MONTAGUE selects only premium varieties to be delivered under their brand. They do this to ensure everyone has the greatest, most refreshing eating experience throughout Summer.
Full flavoured, the MONTAGUE tree™ plums are hand selected by growers from the outer edges of the trees. As a result, the sunshine increases the sugar levels, a stunning intense colour and this summer stone fruit gives a full, rich flavour. The growers are excited to share the amazing Granite Belt red centred plums. Many local fruit shops will range the product from Mid-November through to December. There will be some tantalizing recipes coming your way soon. Keep an eye across our social media to make sure you don’t miss them!
Granite Belt Brewery
During this visit we had the pleasure of staying one night at the Granite Belt Brewery. The property is set on 30 acres of natural bushland. It’s rustic and serene surrounds provide the perfect setting to enjoy a relaxed weekend away. Located just a quick 5-minute drive from Stanthorpe, the estate features 19 cosy cedar cabins. The cabins are complete with log fire, the perfect way to curl up and rest after a jam-packed day enjoying everything Stanthorpe has to offer!
Business owners Dee and Geoff were delighted to accommodate and are so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and the menu options are absolutely moreish. You can’t stay at a brewery and not sample the goods, so we also delighted in a selection of their craft beers. The brewery was established in 2012. The ales and lagers are all hand crafted on site in the couples 1000 litre microbrewery. We will definitely need to head back to sample more as the craft beers are full flavoured and super refreshing to drink!
Granite Belt Brewery is one of the accommodation options that green grocers will get to enjoy for the 2020 Growers and Grocers Orchard Experience. Check out the link here on what the event is all about!
If you are staying in Stanthorpe, Stanthorpe Cheese is an absolute must! Situated at Thulimbah, 10 minutes north of Stanthorpe. We stopped in to see and taste the amazing Granite Belt cheese. There are so many varieties from camembert, to tasty blue in addition to mature cheddar, they have it all. Rosco and Karen have been in the industry for over 60 years collectively. Their passion is for producing food of the highest quality. You can indulge in a scrumptious lunch with both indoor seating and a gorgeous alfresco setting option.
These artisan cheeses are made from a single herd of jersey cows from just one farm! Therefore you won’t get cheese like this anywhere else and it changes seasonally. If you like your cheese to a certain taste, the website states ‘If it’s raining and the grass is rich and luscious, the cheese reflects this with its bright yellow colour and earthy aroma’.
Not only cheese artisans, they also range many local products including chutneys, jams, gourmet vinegar and much more. Make sure to add Stanthorpe Cheese to your list and visit Queensland’s much-loved cheese shop.
Mt Stirling Olives
Mt Stirling Olive Farm is situated on a 175-acre property in the heart of the Granite Belt wine country. It’s located at Glen Aplin, around 10km from Stanthorpe. Dating back to 1993 with around 3,500 trees Mt Stirling Olives began producing a range of tapenades and pickled olives.
Over the years the business grew and now consists of a multitude of products that we absolutely love! Their range includes rich and fruity extra virgin cold pressed olive oils. There are gourmet style oils infused with the natural flavours of truffle, lemon myrtle, bush lime, garlic and chili. The olive range has also grown and incorporates Spanish Manzanillos spiced with herbs, chilli and garlic, Greek kalamatas, salted and sundried olives, kalamatas in raspberry vinegar, jumbo kalamatas and Green Turkish style olives. Just wow! We stocked up on Mt Stirling basil infused cold pressed olive oil which we’ve found can be used on just about everything!
Craving something sweet after firstly gorging on a flavour explosion of olives? In addition, they have over twenty-five flavours of fudge to choose from at their store. Yes of course there’s more than fudge! A range of beauty products including olive soaps, face and hand creams and body washes is on offer!
When visiting Stanthorpe, it’s always exciting to stop into Kent Saddlery. We love their hand-crafted leather belts, and this time bought not only a lovely belt. We met the master himself, Lyle. A friendly business owner who takes the time to explain the workmanship behind his products. Lyle truly cares about his customers.
Kent Saddlery was established back in 1988 by Lyle and Helen Kent. From vegetable farming to saddlery Lyle’s passion for leather work developed over time repairing saddles and other leather gear. Since its’ establishment, Kent Saddlery has grown and changed exponentially. Their first retail store opened in 2012 and we just love all of the beautiful gifts and many accessories available at the store. The saddlery is a family business and the owners are so pleased that most of their children and extended families are involved in varying ways.
We love discovering different places every time we visit Stanthorpe and already can’t wait to go back! Make sure to follow our pages to keep up to date with our growers and follow their stories. Thanks to everyone for supporting our Aussie Growers!
