We are loving stone fruit season! The past fortnight has been nothing but energizing with so much excitement over the grower’s stone fruit! Queenslanders are happy to hear that local produce can be purchased at your friendly greengrocer store throughout Brisbane, Gold Coast, Northern NSW, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba and in the South Burnett. Currently, we have the Queensland growers from Kumbia in the South Burnett and Pure Sunshine from Gatton in the Lockyer Valley.
Kumbia’s varieties to date have included the Superstar™ yellow nectarine, Snow Angel™ white peach, and Polar Light white nectarine. The nectarine is juicy and tangy and can be eaten crisp and crunchy or soft. To increase the flavour of this beautiful fruit leave it on the bench for 2-3 days and you’ll find the flesh is nice and sweet. The peach, however, has a much sweeter taste and aromatic flavour and it also can be left on the bench for up to 2-3 days. When you take a bight of the white nectarine you’ll instantly be amazed at the beautiful full flavour and sweet moist texture. The growers are working hard in their orchards harvesting more stone fruit each week. The grader in the packing shed is processing tonnes of deliciously healthy stone fruit daily for everyone to enjoy this season. There’s more amazing Kumbia stone fruit on its way.
As you already know the growers of Pure Sunshine launched their Aussie Donut™ Peach this week at Montague market floor at the Brisbane Markets. The greengrocers were delighted to meet grower Ross and his family to hear about the seasonal produce. The Aussie Donut™ Peach sparked some interest with comments on the unique taste and the pretty shape. From the launch to the in-store promotion at Brisbane’s greengrocer The Pantry on Grey, the buzz around this interesting fruit was certainly unexpected. The chef was thrilled to get started creating a tantalising spring stone fruit salad. Shoppers couldn’t get enough of this luscious peach. You can find the Aussie Donut™ Peach at your local fruit shop in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, and Toowoomba. Stay tuned for more varieties coming to you from the Pure Sunshine orchard.
