Just a quick 90 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane, Stanthorpe is one of the Southern Downs best scenic country getaways!
A NICOLETTI APPLE A DAY! (THAT’S HOW THE SAYING GOES, RIGHT?)
First stop on our Stanthorpe journey was the picturesque Nicoletti Orchards. The Aussie weather has been good so far meaning the Nicoletti family are in for another booming season! We saw rows of Royal Gala apples with a slight blush and the winter rains have made way for beautiful flowers and buds throughout the orchard! Nicoletti Orchards will be launching late January so more to come on them later!
SLEEPING AT A VINEYARD? SIGN ME UP!
No Stanthorpe trip is complete without the perfect place to park up for the night, and we definitely found that at Sancerre Estate! Hosted by Stacey and Brad, this vineyard bed & breakfast perfectly entwines modern luxury with contemporary charm. Sitting elevated, it gives you striking views overlooking Stanthorpe, the breakfast was scrumptious, and we even had Belle the border collie to entertain us during our stay!
STACKS ON STACKS ON STACK OR SHOULD WE SAY STRAWBERRIES!
After a relaxing morning, we were on to Ashbern Farms to see rows upon rows of luscious strawberries! Not only do they have a mouth-watering menu (light and fluffy waffles – topped with homemade strawberry ice cream – YES PLEASE!) you can also pick your own strawberries fresh from the farm, and we’re talking big whopping strawberries!
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK – AND THE JAMWORKS!
A quick pitstop at Jamworks gourmet foods, with 160 preserves available it was hard not to walk out with a boot full of flavoursome jams and chutneys. However, with a tasting bar and extremely helpful staff available we were able to narrow it down to our top 3 – and just had to buy them all!
INFORMATION CENTRE! MORE LIKE FASCINATION CENTRE!
If you’re just passing through Stanthorpe with little time to spare, do yourself a favour and stop into the Visitors Information Centre. There’s a quaint café attached and amazing murals around as well as a beautiful display of local products! Snap a selfie with one of our bookmarks at the centre (if you’re quick enough to get in while there’s any left!)
It’s always a sad time when you leave Stanthorpe, there are so many hidden gems throughout the town so there is always somewhere else you want to try! A great way to push past those post-Stanthorpe blues is a quick stop at Café Jacqui’s in Warwick, with a huge selection of great local products to try! Not only is there delicious food and great coffee, but it’s also the perfect place to network! We got to meet with the lovely Southern Downs Region Council Jenny and have a really insightful chat! Our trip wouldn’t have been complete without one last stop to see Justin at Rose City Fruits who loves locally grown produce and says his customers just can’t get enough of those Traprock Region Plums!
We’ll be back soon Stanthorpe!
